We Don't Say Goodbye

a novel by Anne Elwick

Reviews and Comments

Anne Elwick weaves a story of poignancy, growth, trials and tribulations, but most of all she weaves a story of love in “We Don’t
Say Goodbye.” Love of friends, love of children, love of life.

The story begins as Judith and Riley drive to Reno, Nevada. They have been in love for the last thirty years but honor and a sense of duty
have kept them apart. Finally destiny smiles on them and gives them their chance. Even though it is a glorious day, there is still snow in
the shadows and the road can be treacherous. A freak accident leaves Judith severely injured, trapped in the car, at the bottom of a ravine.

As Riley desperately tries to reach her, their past unfolds.

The author recreates the details and the feelings of the decades of the sixties, seventies and eighties while maintaining the tension of Riley’s
heroic mission in the present. Not an easy task. And she leaves the reader wanting more, a difficult task at best. Does Riley get to Judith
in time? You’ll just have to read “We Don’t Say Goodbye” to find out.

Review: WE DON'T SAY GOODBYE

New author Anne Elwick tells us the story of star-crossed lovers who are separated by unfortunate circumstances, yet are always within reach of one another. Every page speaks to the changing times, and the changing lives of Judith and Riley. Anne carries us from present day, back through time, as the characters remember their pasts. Her story begins as they are finally on the verge of having a life together, but are once again torn apart by an accident. By way of flashbacks, the author shows us the lives of a small group of friends as they grow up in southern California, go off to college, and become emersed in the grownup world of the 60's. She captures the era by tuning us in to the music of the times, and the headlines that rocked the world. But she gives us insight to the moral values and consequences facing young people who stepped over the invisible line.

She brings us through the 70's with the political turmoil and Vietnam war with these young people who have grown up, married and are raising their families. As they progress through the years you feel like you know them, and her vivid descriptions of events and the effects they had on these people keep you turning the pages to see what will happen next.

If you enjoy reading the work of Nicholas Sparks, you will really enjoy this book. Anne has the knack for telling an enduring love story, while evoking nostalgia for the times and places the characters live through. I look forward to reading more from this talented new author.

Review of "We Don't Say Goodbye"

In her first novel Anne Elwick gives us a tale about a young girl and her prince charming, with a modern day twist. Anne's story is contemporary as she weaves it through dates and events of the times we live in, but she gives us the fairy tale of two people who are bound by a love that will last for eternity.

Judith and Riley are sweethearts until he gives in to one night of passion with her best friend Kate. When Kate discovers she's pregnant, Judith gives up the man she loves, but the friendship, loyalty and love between these three people remains throughout their lifetimes.

As I read this story, I felt that I knew the characters. I recognized the places they went, and lived through the times they experienced. Anne grabs your attention in the first chapter and keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what happens next. It is an excellent first effort and I know we'll be reading more from her in the future.

Book review of "We Don't Say Goodbye"

This is a debut novel by Anne Elwick. If you love a good novel, one to hold your interest from start to finish, this is the one to read.

Sometimes the right choices made are not the best ones. Here are some observations I made in reading about these three friends, Judith, Kate and Riley. Judith and Riley are childhood sweethearts, but a moment of stolen pleasure, and the consequences has changed their destiny. Judiths' friendship and love for her best friend Kate forces her to give up the man she loves.

After thiry years, and still in love, Judith and Riley get another chance at a life together, only to meet with tragedy. From past to present, from start to finish, you are involved with the intimate passions, loves, disappointments, betrayals and losses of these people and their separate families, each seeking happiness in their own way.

Grab a cup of coffee or tea and curl up on your favorite couch for a deeply engrossing story.

Finished your book last night and could not put it down, wondering what had happened to Judith. It is a lovely story. Very well written with enough details to absorb you. At one point I thought maybe I knew the characters. Very nice. Keep writing. You have a gift.

I finished WE DON'T SAY GOODBYE yesterday. I love it.     And I'm not just saying that as a friend.   I'm saying it because I mean it.   Danielle Steele has nothing over you, girl.   You're going to do very well out there in the romance world of literature.

What a wonderful love story!   Very cleverly written going back and forth in time, keeping me on edge, wondering and wanting more.   The manner in which you told their individual stories, together, had to have been a very difficult task.   I see it as a TV movie, in fact you wrote it as such actually . . . whether you intended to or not.

And your dialogue is fantastic.   It's realistic.   I don't want to say too much here about the actual story so that I don't spoil it for others, but you have talent, my friend.   And I can't wait to buy it and read it again when it's been released.
